Felix has been described as a modern day Hamlet. Following the sudden death of his father he arrives home to find that his mother has disposed of her late husband’s belongings, including his beloved bees, and is planning to remarry almost before the funeral nibbles have reached room temperature. Comedy and pathos abound as the brilliant astrophysicist struggles to cope with the complexities of human relationships.

A poem / song by Barry Eales who played the part of James in the play.

You’re welcome to:

“Humble Boy”

And much hamming down at Torq.
We thought we’d try the play called Humble Boy.
And much hamming down at Torq.
To be involved in this was a great joy.

It focused on a family dysfunctional at best.
At the start the patriarch had just been laid to rest,
And then his friends and family were all put to the test.
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
Gay Bell was our wonderful Director.
And much hamming down at Torq.
Our facilities seemed not to affect her.

She made a trip to Bunnings to get items for the stage.
She put in lots of hours work with no thoughts for a wage.
Just as well the rest of us were all on the same page.
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
Michael played the role of Felix Humble.
And much hamming down at Torq.
About his work we surely couldn’t grumble.

He was fat and unkempt and was wont at times to stammer.
There were times his mother came down on him like a hammer.
He had lots of qualities but certainly not glamour.
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
Felix he was working on String Theory.
And much hamming down at Torq.
At times his explanation were quite dreary.

In his fight with George he showed us that he was a wimp,
And when Rosie jumped on him he prob’ly was quite limp,
And with his extra body weight he looked just like a blimp.
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
Terry played the role of James’s wife.
And much hamming down at Torq.
She had some disappointments in her life.

Her annoyance with her son at times it really shows.
Insults and complaints about others she just throws and throws.
We think the only good she had was the work done on her nose.
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
Flora didn’t like her one horse town.
And much hamming down at Torq.
She thought her husband he had let her down.

She was rather careless with his ashes in their pot.
She confessed to Felix that, well, she had spilt a lot,
But to be fair, we’d have to say she gave it her best shot
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
Fred he played the role of neighbour George.
And much hamming down at Torq.
With Flora a new life he hoped to forge.

He was quite a blusterer, especially when drunk.
He seemed to think he was some sort of middle aged spunk,
But by the end his sex appeal for Flora it had shrunk.
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
Lisa she was Rosie, George’s daughter.
And much hamming down at Torq.
At times she acted like she shouldn’t oughtta.

She told Felix that she wasn’t still in love with him,
Then she tried to deflower him, merely on a whim,
She probably could have managed better if he was a bit more trim
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
Carleen she played Mercy, Humble’s good friend.
And much hamming down at Torq.
On her for helping out they could depend.

We could say she was a shrinking violet, not at ease.
It seems that all she ever did was trying to appease.
We’d think that she’d give anything to make her life a breeze
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
The role of gard’ner Jim was played by Barry.
And much hamming down at Torq.
Even after death he had to tarry.

He loved to potter with his plants, and tend bees in their hives.
At opportune occasions he seemed just to arrive.
His only problem was that he was no longer alive.
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
In Act II there was a funky party.
And much hamming down at Torq.
At times the conversation was quite hearty.

Mercy made some gazpacho soup with James an added touch.
George and Flora thought that Felix did protest too much.
We’re sure that if George had the chance he’d kick him in the crutch.
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
They talked about best ways to suicide.
And much hamming down at Torq.
That not say that any of them tried.

Rosie dropped the big bombshell about her daughter’s birth,
This news to father George, well it didn’t cause much mirth,
And then the insults started, for all that they were worth
And much hamming down at Torq.

And much hamming down at Torq.
Lots of people helped with this show.
And much hamming down at Torq.
There was always something on the go.

Many thanks to anyone who helped in any way.
Everybody must chip in the have a winning play.
The expertise of all involved, it really did hold sway.
And much hamming down at Torq.

Last verse…

And much hamming down at Torq.
And now this is the ending of my song.
And much hamming down at Torq.
I hope it hasn’t gone on for too long.

Flora learned about her flowers and their fancy name.
Felix proved to everyone he wasn’t playing games,
And they got to say farewell to the ghostly figure James.
And much hamming down at Torq!
